Matt MacNamara

Getting to know Matt

Matt has spent most of his 34 years playing videogames. Ever since, as a 7 year old, he first played Hungry Horace on the ZX Spectrum he realized that games were better than anything the real world had to offer. He has owned a GameBoy, Super Nintendo, Atari Lynx 2, GameBoy Color, Nintendo 64, GameBoy Advance, GameCube, PlayStation 2, Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. Matt loves nothing better than when the weather’s overcast or rainy, because it gives him an excuse to stay in and play videogames all day long!

What’s your favourite band?

Suede. I’ve got all their albums, but sadly have never seen them play live.

If you could visit anywhere in the world, where would it be and why?

Rio De Janeiro – I’ve heard they’ve got a fantastic carnival there, but I’d be more interested in seeing the cable car that was featured in the movie Moonraker, when Jaws tried to kill Roger Moore.

What is your favourite videogame?

I will never forget the experience of getting totally immersed in the world of Hyrule when I first played The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time.

What would you never leave the house without?

My keys, wallet and phone. Although, I am usually too tight to spend any money on anything. And the only person who ever calls me is Ian GameTank, but I always ignore his calls anyway. But at least I’ve got my keys, so I can get back into my house.

What was your favourite childhood toy?

I used to collect Robo Machines. They were like smaller versions of Transformers. Also Rough Riders were little cars that were powered by one AA battery.

Who was your first celebrity crush?

This is tie breaker between Sue Lawley and Philippa Forrester. Can I take them both out for a pub lunch to see who wins, please?

If someone could play you in a film of your life, who would it be?

Noel Edmonds. Although he’d have to shave his beard off, so if he had a problem with that then we’d have to ask Ricky Gervais. He’ll do anything apparently.

What is your favourite film?

Back to the Future Trilogy – even when it’s on the telly for the 1000th time I still have to watch, despite owning it on DVD.
