Dan Morris

Getting to know Dan

GameTank Dan has been playing games since the Master System (the Mark I, without Alex Kid built in – it looked like a toaster). He spent most of his childhood trying to take over the world with various different schemes, including his first videogames fanzine, PlayStation Zone (twice printed in Computer & Video Games magazine) which was published between 1997 and 2001. He has 4 Xbox 360’s because he’s “obsessive compulsive about hardware”. Over the years his need for daylight has diminished. He has an internet.

What’s your favourite band?

I used to run a music magazine that was available in HMV (it was called Satan’s FishTank – that’s where the Tank in GameTank came from) so my tastes are varied and wide. All the way from tacky pop to heavy metal. Never really had a fave band, just love music in general, including classical – film soundtracks etc – and of course game soundtracks. Music in itself is just awesome, so I can’t limit myself to one band. Sorry!

If you could visit anywhere in the world, where would it be and why?

I’ve always wanted to tour the USA in a camper van! Think it would be amazing to land on the west coast and travel across the entire country hitting all the tourist spots, and finding some new ones of my own – meeting wicked people and creating some awesome memories along the way. Also – always wanted to go to the Pyramids.

What is your favourite videogame?

Uncharted 2: Among Thieves. It’s a master-class in how videogames can tell a story, engage a player, and be amazing fun at the same time. The character building and storytelling are second to none – and, along with the original game – Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune – are worthy of the price of a PS3 alone. Plus, both the lead girls in it are way hot. Made out of code and textures, yes, but WAY HOT! Mmmmmm…
What would you never leave the house without?

Clothes. Trust me – you’ll get into a lot of trouble. Also, my iPod, phone and laptop. As geeky as that sounds I can’t deal without my laptop – it keeps me in touch with GameTank and friends.

What was your favourite childhood toy?

Geek alert! It was my Sega MegaDrive. My mum and dad bought it for me in the middle of the year – wasn’t a birthday or Christmas present – just an awesome random present one Summer’s day. It came with Sonic the Hedgehog and although I’d played videogames before, this was the point I fell in love with them. A life changing day. I was also massively into Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles stuff, Matchbox toy cars, anything Thundercats, and playing outside in the real world. Interacting with other people. Those were the days…

Who was your first celebrity crush?

I’m pretty sure it was Geri Halliwell actually. Is that bad? That’s bad isn’t it. Sorry.

If someone could play you in a film of your life, who would it be?

Dale Winton.

What is your favourite film?

Matt already said this, but I adore the Back To The Future trilogy. Also the original Star Wars trilogy. Also Monsters Inc. I freaking love Monsters Inc! Oh, and any James Bond film with Sir Roger Moore at the helm. “Keeping the British end up, Sir!” Legend!
